ALMERE - Sinterklaas, the Dutch version of Santa Claus, is raring to go.
The wise old man with the red bishop's garb arrives in the Netherlands every year to give presents to obedient children, chide the wayward ones and take particularly naughty minors back to his homeland in Spain.
This year, Sinterklaas and his helpers will dock on a steamboat in the harbour of Almere in Flevoland province on Saturday, 15 November before travelling throughout the country. The festivities around Sinterklaas will end on 5 December with Dutch people traditionally exchange gifts.
