11 November 2005, AMSTERDAM — Anglo-Dutch oil giant Shell has replaced electronics company Philips as the favourite employer for the highly educated staff in the Netherlands. Philips is in second place and soap-to-soup producer Unilever is in third.

AMSTERDAM — Anglo-Dutch oil giant Shell has replaced electronics company Philips as the favourite employer for the highly educated staff in the Netherlands. Philips is in second place and soap-to-soup producer Unilever is in third.

The favourite employer in the public sector is the police. In the overall ranking, a job in the police comes in 12th place, according to the research conducted on behalf of VNU Business Publications.

The study gives a twice yearly view of the expectations and ambitions of people with a HBO higher education or university education.

Like six months ago, the latest study found 21 percent of people with third-level qualifications are searching for another job.

They said the most important aspects of a job are variation in work, a good balance between work and free time and prospects for advancement. Salary came in fouth place.
