THE NETHERLANDS - Anglo-Dutch oil giant Shell has posted a net profit of over USD 10 billion for the first two quarters of this year, an 8 percent increase over the same period in 2007.

Shell says the profit, the company's highest ever, is the result of soaring oil prices around the world.

Unilever announced net profits of EUR 2.4 billion for the first six months of the year, 5 percent more than the same period in 2007.
