KANDAHAR – Seven Dutch soldiers were injured in a suicide attack in Deh Rawod in the southern Afghan province of Uruzgan on Tuesday. One of the soldiers is in critical condition, the remaining six are stable, the defence ministry has announced.

The ISAF stabilisation force reports that six civilians were killed in the attack and 15 to 20 have been injured. The wounded have been brought to the military hospital at Kamp Holland in Tarin Kowt. The police chief of Uruzgan and the Afghan home affairs ministry have reported at least 17 dead and 30 injured.

The attack took place at the bazaar in Deh Rawod at 10.15 am local time. A great many people were at the bazaar at the time of the attack. Police say that at least 12 children were killed in the attack. Women were also among the victims.

Defence laments the fact that the families of the Dutch soldiers involved had not yet been informed when the news was reported.
