Senior Dutch civil servant 'wanted Kony dead
A senior Dutch foreign ministry official advised the United States to have Ugandan militia leader Joseph Kony assassinated. The NOS Dutch public service broadcaster broke the news which is based on a US embassy report disclosed by Wikileaks.
Wepke Kingma is reported to have suggested the US should “put a price on the head” of Kony, the leader of the Lord’s Resistance Army.
In 2005, the international Criminal Court in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for Kony. Under his command, the LRA has been responsible for the murder and mutilation of tens of thousands of people. Initially, the group was only engaged in fighting Ugandan forces. Since it was expelled from Uganda, it has been operating in areas including northeastern Congo and southern Sudan.
