AMSTERDAM — For the second year thousands of expats from all over the Netherlands streamed into the Beurs van Berlage in Amsterdam for Expatica's Welcome to the Netherlands Fair.
At a time when many expats are expressing concern at the difficulty of obtaining accurate information about setting up life in the Netherlands, the fair was intended to "tell you everything you need to know about Dutch life in one day".
"From the feedback we received on the day, the event seems to have lived up to its billing," Expatica Events Manager Lee Devereux said on Monday. "Both exhibitors and visitors say the event is a very useful tool to put expats in touch with the crucial service providers".
There were a total of 88 stands. The exhibitors included financial firms, estate and relocation agencies, recruitment agencies, schools and universities, social and sports clubs and expat stores.
The event featured "fun and informal" presentations on the local culture. There was also a clog maker on hand to show visitors how the traditional Dutch footwear is made.
An evaluation of the event will be carried out this week, and Devereux said feedback from both visitors and participating organisations is welcome. "An event like this is a huge undertaking for everyone concerned. To make it a success you have to listen to what people want and need," Devereux said.
Expatica held its first welcome fair in Amsterdam in 2004. The first Welcome to France Fair takes place at the Louvre exhibition centre in Paris on 16 October.
