RIJSWIJK – Schools should prohibit pupils from smoking on school playgrounds, says the Besturenraad, an organisation that represents 2,250 educational institutions and 800,000 pupils in Christian education.

The educational body says that pupils being able to light a cigarette on school grounds should be a thing of the past.

After the summer holiday the council will discuss the smoking ban with school administrations. The measures should come into effect on 1 July 2008 to coincide with the introduction of a smoking ban in bars and restaurants.
