APELDOORN –The students of a school in Apeldoorn were evacuated after a burning Molotov cocktail had been thrown inside the school building. The school staff managed to extinguish the fire, the police reported on Wednesday.

The fire bomb was thrown inside via the back entrance. Some 400 students were present at the ‘Heemgaard’ Christian secondary school to mark the opening of the new school year. Nobody sustained any injuries. The police hope to track down the perpetrator(s) via witness statements and video footage of the surveillance cameras.

The director of the school, Rob Stevelmans, was shocked by the incident. “I can rule out that the perpetrator is a student of our school. Students were present when it happened and we have already looked at the video footage.”  Stevelmans said the school has never before been confronted with a similar incident. The school will send a letter to the parents to inform them about the incident.
