PUTTE – The justice department suspects A.K., the director of primary school Op Dreef in Putte, of sex offences involving several underage pupils.

The 58-year-old man from Ossendrecht was arrested on Tuesday. Spokespersons for the police and public prosecution department confirmed this on Friday after a report in the regional newspaper BN/De Stem.

The school administration has filed complaints on behalf of several children. The police are not saying how many victims are involved. The offences were reportedly committed over a long period of time.

Nor do police want to comment on the exact nature of the claims. These are still being investigated. The newspaper wrote that the director committed the alleged offences in the pupils' shower area, other areas at school and at his own home, and that he took photographs of the children.

The examining magistrate will decide today whether the man will remain in custody longer.
