AMSTERDAM – The holiday season starts at Schiphol this weekend. An average of 158,000 people a day are expected to travel via the airport in July and August. That is over 8,000 more than on a daily basis last summer, Schiphol reported on Friday.

In total some 9.8 million passengers are expected to pass through the airport in these two months. The busiest day is expected to be 27 July, when 171,000 passengers will be arriving, departing or stopping over at the airport. That is significantly more than in 2006, when the busiest day saw 165,000 people at the airport.
