Six foreigners being held at a detention centre at Amsterdam's Schiphol airport have gone on hunger strike. One of them also refuses to drink.

AMSTERDAM - The six were barred from entering the country and are awaiting expulsion.

Refugee organisation Prime says they were handcuffed and beaten on Thursday when they refused to return to their cells after being outside.

The organisation says their action is in protest at their mistreatment. Their nationalities are not known.
