Safety Board investigates soldiers death

The Dutch Safety Board has launched an investigation into the death of 20-year-old Boy van Geffen.

Van Geffen, a soldier in the Airborne Brigade, died last months after taking part in a self-defence course at cadre training. he was reportedly killed by blows he sustained during the training course.

The Safety Board investigation is intended to determine the cause of death as well as make recommendations for improving safety.

The military police is conducting a separate investigation into the incident. The defence ministry has closed the self-defence training course for the duration.
