Sablikova wins Long Distance World Cup

In the Speed Skating Long Distance World Cup at the Thialf stadium in the northern Dutch town of Heerenveen, Czech skater Martina Sablikova has won the 5,000 metre race.

HEERENVEEN - She has already won the 3,000-metre race and is so far ahead that the Long Distance World Cup is already hers.

This is the third time Ms Sablikova has won the Long Distance World Cup. Last week she won the Allround World Championship in the Norwegian city of Hamar.

Dutch competitors Renate Groenewold and Jorien Voorhuis came in 6th and 7th place, nevertheless they have qualified for the World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships in Canada in March.

In the men's competition, American Shani Davis has won the 1500-metre race beating Norwegian Harvard Bökko.
