PSV Eindhoven manager Fred Rutten will leave the club after this season.

The 49-year-old manager has informed the club executive of his decision. “It is time for PSV and I to let each other go. My impending departure from the on Friday.

The manager’s contract with PSV expires at the end of this season, and he wanted to end speculations about his future. Rutten said he informed general manager Tiny Sanders and technical director Marcel Brands of his decision in November.

Rutten has been repeatedly criticised because of the varying results following major investments. He is now in his third season with PSV. The club came third in the Premier League in his first two seasons, while before the club had won the title for many years in a row. PSV is currently in second place in the competition and still active in the Dutch Cup as well as the Europa League.

Mr Rutten says his departure has nothing to with the club management’s objective for this season, which is and will continue to be winning the championship.
