Rutte: deeply regrettable that Wilders pulled out

Outgoing Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte told the lower house of parliament that the coalition partners “were able to work very successfully with Geert Wilders’ Freedom Party PVV for 18 months.”

Rutte said it was “deeply regrettable that the partnership had to end.” Rutte’s comments came during Tuesday’s parliamentary debate on the fall of his minority government.

He added that “it was a great pity that we were unable to bring our good work to a successful conclusion.”

Despite repeated badgering by SP leader Emile Roemer, Rutte refused to say whether he regretted the decision to work with the PVV.
