AMSTERDAM – European Parliament member Manders has already received 150 requests from municipalities for a European flag. The VVD member recently started a campaign to get more EU flags flying in the Netherlands.

He is paying for the flags from his own pocket because he feels so strongly about promoting Europe.

Manders offered the blue flags with the ring of 12 yellow stars to all 443 Dutch municipalities. 50 schools have also asked him for a flag.

Government agencies are required to fly the EU flag on 9 May, Europe Day. Manders started his campaign after he noticed many more EU flags flying in other European countries he has visited on holiday.
