Royal state visit to India this week

22 October 2007, THE HAGUE – Queen Beatrix will make her second official state visit to India from Wednesday 24 to Saturday 27 October. Crown prince Willem Alexander and Princes Máxima will accompany her. The queen's first state visit to the republic was 20 years ago. The royal family has visited the country on other occasions however, and spent the millennium celebrations there as well.

THE HAGUE – Queen Beatrix will make her second official state visit to India from Wednesday 24 to Saturday 27 October. Crown prince Willem Alexander and Princes Máxima will accompany her.
 
The queen's first state visit to the republic was 20 years ago. The royal family has visited the country on other occasions however, and spent the millennium celebrations there as well.

As is customary Foreign Minister Maxime Verhagen will also join the delegation.
Economic Affairs Maria van der Hoeven will cross paths with the delegation as she leads a trade mission to India this week.

The state visit will kick off in the capital of New Delhi. The visit will focus on ecological developments, water management and microfinancing.

The royals will also visit Bangalore and the village of Srinivasnagar.

India has a population of about 1.1 billion. Despite rapid economic development over the past years one third of the Indian population still lives in poverty.

Dutch exports to India account for only 0.3 percent of the Netherlands' total exports. The Netherlands is an important investor in India however.
