Rotterdam - The annual Crime Index drawn up by the national broadsheet AD shows that Rotterdam is the most criminal city in the Netherlands. The city faces large numbers of robberies, muggings and beatings.

The Crime Index is based on figures released by all police forces and focusses on ten major crimes.

This is the fourth time in eight years that Rotterdam has headed the list. Last year, Eindhoven was the nation's least secure city, but this year it came second.

The AD Crime Index shows that the town of Tubbergen in the east of the country is the most secure town in the Netherlands.
