Rotterdam gets impressive 80-metre cube building

The cube designed by Rem Koolhaas will be perched on ABN Amro's Coolsingel building and will cost more than EUR 0.5 billion.

ROTTERDAM - Architect Rem Koolhaas is planning to liven up Rotterdam's city centre with a transparent 80-metre cube which will contain office, living and recreation space.

Besides housing homes, offices and shops, it is hoped the building can contain a theatre and museum.

The cube will be perched on ABN Amro's Coolsingel building and will cost more than EUR 0.5 billion. Construction is due to start in 2011 and will take two years.
