ROTTERDAM - A court in Rotterdam has ruled that the local council was justified in denying a job to a Muslim man who refused to shake hands with women.

The court said someone whose job is to deal with clients every day and build up a relationship of trust with them could not refuse to shake their hands.

The man brought the case against Rotterdam council social services when he was turned down for a post because he refused to shake hands with women, citing his religious beliefs.

He claimed the council's refusal to offer him the job is denying him of his religious freedom.

I am personally Muslim and must say that some comments I have red here above are quite radical, but I'm happy that some of you do not work in the Dutch Court, otherwise I would be worried about the democracy in this country. In any case, I believe that a moslim can be totally consistant with his faith and interact normaly in a Western country where Islam is not the dominant religion. Moreover, I am convinced that the muslims are here to give a different perspective on life and contribute to buid a better society. Of course there are problems, of course nothing is perfect, but we should support the positives initiatives that encourages the dialogue between people from diverse horizons and bacgrounds. But as you know the newspapers prefer to put as a headline negative and stigmating events rather than writting on positive initiatives that makes the majority of people's everyday life, isn't it?...

    Muslim Youths

Muslim youths are angry, frustrated and extremist because they have been mis-educated and de-educated by the British schooling. Muslim children are confused because they are being educated in a wrong place at a wrong time in state schools with non-Muslim monolingual teachers. They face lots of problems of growing up in two distinctive cultural traditions and value systems, which may come into conflict over issues such as the role of women in the society, and adherence to religious and cultural traditions. The conflicting demands made by home and schools on behaviour, loyalties and obligations can be a source of psychological conflict and tension in Muslim youngsters. There are also the issues of racial prejudice and discrimination to deal with, in education and employment. They have been victim of racism and bullying in all walks of life. According to DCSF, 56% of Pakistanis and 54% of Bangladeshi children has been victims of bullies. The first wave of Muslim migrants were happy to send their children to state schools, thinking their children would get a much better education. Than little by little, the overt and covert discrimination in the system turned them off. There are fifteen areas where Muslim parents find themselves offended by state schools.

The right to education in one’s own comfort zone is a fundamental and inalienable human right that should be available to all people irrespective of their ethnicity or religious background. Schools do not belong to state, they belong to parents. It is the parents’ choice to have faith schools for their children. Bilingual Muslim children need state funded Muslim schools with bilingual Muslim teachers as role models during their developmental periods. There is no place for a non-Muslim teacher or a child in a Muslim school. There are hundreds of state schools where Muslim children are in majority. In my opinion, all such schools may be designated as Muslim community schools. An ICM Poll of British Muslims showed that nearly half wanted their children to attend Muslim schools. There are only 143 Muslim schools. A state funded Muslim school in Birmingham has 220 pupils and more than 1000 applicants chasing just 60.

Majority of anti-Muslim stories are not about terrorism but about Muslim
culture--the hijab, Muslim schools, family life and religiosity. Muslims in the west ought to be recognised as a western community, not as an alien culture.

Forgot to add, I totally agree with the court and it was idiotic of the man to actually believe that he was going to get such a job with his kinds of believes. Everyone should look for something that suits them and their believes and not make a big fuss over something like this.

That's funny that some of you guys would think that way. Where was your thinking when the West occupied the East (Middle East in this case) for their resources? The West interferes with the East's policies only when it suits them. They were doing just fine until you came along screwed them over and then complained about their policies. Where do you think their policies came from in the first place? Most of their laws were made up by the Westerners. (Haven't you studied history?)
If we were to follow on some of your advises then we'd have to go find some other countries to screw for their oil.
And just because G.W.Bush is a Christian fundamentalist doesn't make all Americans a**holes.

But remember that west can't survey without the Arabic countries (Huge market for the European and American companies, plus natural resources) and same apply the other way.
My advise is not to apply the rule to everybody and be wiser than the fundamutalist.
If not Hitler will appear again and kick everybody ass.

Good news. It was about time for something like this. I will never understand muslims. They leave the crap of the country of their origin and go West. In the West, they want to recreate the same crap they left. Why didn't they just stay where they have all religious freedom?

Finally some common sense coming from The Netherlands. Ban muslim immigration in the West. Muslims don't accomodate westerners in any way.
