ROTTERDAM - A court in Rotterdam has ruled that the local council was justified in denying a job to a Muslim man who refused to shake hands with women.
The court said someone whose job is to deal with clients every day and build up a relationship of trust with them could not refuse to shake their hands.
The man brought the case against Rotterdam council social services when he was turned down for a post because he refused to shake hands with women, citing his religious beliefs.
He claimed the council's refusal to offer him the job is denying him of his religious freedom.
