Rosenthal senses pride and energy in Tunis
Foreign Minister Uri Rosenthal says he could sense among Tunisians the energy to revitalise their economy, which sustained serious damage in the ‘Jasmine Revolution’ earlier this year. Massive popular protests then led to the fall of the regime led by former president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.
Mr Rosenthal visited Tunisia on Monday to discuss the situation in the country with his Tunisian colleague, the prime minister and a number of social organisations. The revolution was particularly harmful to exports, which are now growing again.
Minister Rosenthal said his hosts clearly took pride in the changes in their country, and in particular in the ‘powerful role’ women played in effecting those changes.
