20 July 2007, CAPELLE AAN DEN IJSSEL – The police reported that disturbances took place on Thursday night after a silent march was held in Capelle aan den IJssel. The procession was held to commemorate the death of a 22-year-old man who had fallen from the 14th floor of a flat on Tuesday night. CAPELLE AAN DEN IJSSEL – The police reported that disturbances took place on Thursday night after a silent march was held in Capelle aan den IJssel.

The procession was held to commemorate the death of a 22-year-old man who had fallen from the 14th floor of a flat on Tuesday night. According to the police, the atmosphere during the march, in which some 300 people took part, was calm. After the procession a group of some 50 youths started smashing windows in a shopping centre. Some youths also stole from a super market.

When the police came into action, the group turned against the police officers and eleven youths were arrested. The police investigation is still under way and it is expected that the police will detain more people with the help of the CCTV cameras. The 22-year-old man for whom the procession was held, was climbing on the 14th floor from one balcony to the next. He missed his hold and fell. The police saw the accident happening before their eyes.
