THE HAGUE – The Christian democrat CDA wants motorists who are caught twice for drug use to lose their license.

Antisocial driving behaviour, such as violating speed limits where road work is being done or in residential areas, should also be punished by revoking the driver's license.

MP Sander de Rouwe will propose these stepped up measures during consultation with Transport Minister Camiel Eurlings. The MP confirmed on Thursday a report in the Telegraaf to this effect.

In Eurlings' plans, only driving under the influence of alcohol can lead to losing a license. Anyone caught driving with too high a blood-alcohol level twice in five years will be forced to surrender their license.

If it were up to De Rouwe, all motorists who repeatedly "take serious risks in sensitive locations" should lose their license. He wants a "zero tolerance" policy with regard to drug use. He makes no distinction between hard or soft drugs.
