THE NETHERLANDS - The Dutch parliament has decided that all civil servants travelling less than 500 kilometres on official business must take the train.

Last year, civil servants made 24,000 trips on passenger jets, 15,000 of which were within Europe.

The Parliament's decision means air travel is no longer an option for destinations like Brussels, Paris and London.
