THE HAGUE – Medicinal cannabis should become a regular registered medication, Public Health Minister Ab Klink said on Wednesday.

Klink wants to extend the availability of medicinal cannabis for scientific research by five years. "With the extension he wants to give the development of a medication based on cannabis a serious chance of success," his department said.

Since 2003 patients have also been able to obtain cannabis with a doctor's prescription. The cultivation of cannabis to be used in medication is supervised by the government.
