Refugee families below Dutch poverty line
Dutch statistics office CBS research indicates that 30 percent of households of people who were or are asylum seekers live below the poverty line in the Netherlands.
The research, which was commissioned by the Dutch Refugee Council VWN, also shows that just 10 percent of the asylum seekers’ families have an income in excess of 30,000 euros per year. Nearly 50 percent of average Dutch households have at least that much money coming in.
The CBS surveyed people who had requested asylum between 2000 and 2010 and were registered with local government administrations.
