Record harvest of Dutch apples and pears

Dutch farmers are harvesting 50 tons of apples per hectare, an all-time record, and 25 percent more than last year, according to the Dutch statistics office.

This year’s pear harvest is big too, with projections putting the total at more than 300 million kilos. Three quarters of the pears are of the Conference race.

The Netherlands numbers some 26 million apple trees and 24 million pear treas. Many orchards are open to the public today for the nationwide Apple Picking Day.
