Real Madrid beat Amsterdam football club Ajax 4-0 in their Champions League match at the ArenA stadium in the Dutch capital on Tuesday evening.

The Spanish side was never threatened by a weak Ajax team. By half-time, the score was already 2-0, with goals from Karim Benzema in the 36nd minute and Alvaro Arbeloa shortly before the whistle blew. Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice for the Spanish side in the second half.

Ajax are now out of the Champions League and can only hope to end in third place in Group G at best. This would allow them to take part in the Europa League.

Ajax striker Mounir El Hamdaoui was taken off with an ankle injury in the first half. Two of Real Madrid’s players, Xabi Alonso and Sergio Ramos, were sent off towards the end of the game.
