THE HAGUE – Queen Beatrix will be in Berlin on Monday evening for the opening of the Trilateral Academic Centre for European Studies. The government information service confirmed this on Monday. The opening ceremony will be followed by a gala.

The centre wants to offer Jordanian, Israeli and Palestinian students the chance to follow a degree programme in European studies together, with the aim of helping them learn more about the EU and strengthen their contacts and mutual understanding.

The centre is an initiative of the Royal Institute for Inter-Faith Studies in Amman, Jordan, the Palestinian Al-Quds University in East Jerusalem and the Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya in Israel. The initiative is supported by the Germany Foreign Affairs ministry. The classes will be offered at the universities of Trier, Düsseldorf and Berlin.

The gala event for the occasion of the opening will be attended by, among others, Prince Hassan of Jordan and former Israeli ambassador to Germany Avi Primor, both good acquaintances of the queen. German foreign minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier will also attend the gala.
