Queen has next move in coalition chess
Following the collapse on Tuesday of the coalition talks aimed at forming a 'purple plus' cabinet, the chief negotiators, Uri Rosenthal and Jacques Wallage, will be reporting back to Queen Beatrix today.
It is not clear what the queen's next move will be, although there is speculation she will once again summon her chief advisor, Herman Tjeenk Willink, along with the leaders of the main political parties.
The coalition talks were abandoned when the conservative VVD insisted on spending cuts totalling at least 18 billion euros by 2015, while the Labour Party and Green Left were only prepared to go to 13 billion and the Democrats 66 as far as 15 billion euros.
