DELHI – Queen Beatrix started her second state visit to India today. The official start to the visit was her arrival at the presidential palace in Delhi, where President Pratibha Patil received the royal delegation.

The official visit ends on Saturday. Crown prince Willem-Alexander and Princess Máxima will continue on to Bhutan for another state visit.

A large military ceremony accompanied the reception at the palace, which was followed by the laying of wreath by the queen at the site in Delhi where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated. The queen was presented with a bronze bust of the Indian hero.
