AMSTERDAM – If consultation with the social partners does not lead to satisfactory measures to limit senior management salaries in the business sector, the Labour party PvdA wants to introduce new legislation.

PvdA MP Paul Tang is considering a private member's bill to increase the highest bracket income tax from 52 percent to 55 percent for those who earn more than EUR 250,000.

He said this on Tuesday; Parliament is due to debate high incomes on Wednesday. The cabinet has rejected a suggestion from trade union confederation FNV chairperson Agnes Jongerius for a higher tax for board members of companies.

Faction leader for the PvdA Jacques Tichelaar says that the coalition agreement leaves room for this kind of initiative from the PvdA.
