AMSTERDAM – A 30-year-old man has been sentenced to compulsory psychiatric treatment for the grisly murder of Alphen aan den Rijn resident Joost Vastenhouw.

The murderer cut his victim into pieces and fried the pieces in a wok and a deep-fat fryer. The murderer says he was "squaring a debt from a previous life."

The court condemned the gruesome way in which the man treated the dead body. "It has caused trauma particularly to the victim's sister and father. It also shocked society deeply."

The Pieter Baan psychiatric centre described the murderer as "schizophrenic and paranoid." He was deemed to be in a diminished state of responsibility.
