RIJSWIJK – Two animal rights organisations have filed complaints with the General Inspectorate of the ministry of agriculture, nature and food quality claiming that pigs are being transported from the Netherlands in abominable conditions.

The organisations Varkens in Nood and Dier en Recht announced this on Wednesday.

Employees of the two foundations say they followed a randomly chosen transport carrying 972 Dutch pigs to Spain. The inspectors say the animals were not given any water or food during the non-stop journey and were packed in tightly.

Upon arrival at the destination it emerged that 13 pigs had died and many others were in extremely poor condition, the organisations say. They have posted photos and video footage of the transport on the internet.
