THE HAGUE – Prices of products packaged in plastic will increase 1 percent next year. This price hike is the result of agreements on recycling plastic packaging that Minister for the Environment Jacqueline Cramer has made with the business sector and municipalities.

"We need to pass on the costs we incur to our customers," says René Roorda, adjunct director of the Netherlands Food Retail Association (CBL). "We expect the municipalities to lower their taxes on waste so that the citizens are compensated."

The ministry of housing, spatial planning and the environment (VROM) said on Wednesday that an accord has been reached on the recycling of packaging after two years of negotiations.
