The Dutch Premier League will remain exciting till the final whistle has sounded in the final on 15 May, when FC Twente and Ajax decide who will be this season’s Dutch champion. One issue has already been decided: last comer Willem II has been relegated to the First Division.

On Sunday, FC Twente beat Willem II 4-0 and Ajax was victorious in Friesland, winning its away game against SC Heerenveen 2-1. FC Twente now has 71 points, and Ajax 70. This means PSV with 68 points can no longer become champion but could still come second. The Eindhoven team beat Vitesse 2-1. PSV will play FC Groningen in an away game on the final day of the competition.

Heracles Almelo is close to qualifying for the Europa League play-offs. The Almelo squad beat NAC in Breda 2-1. As a result, Heracles now ranks eighth in the play-offs. Its immediate competitors FC Utrecht and Feyenoord both lost their matches. The Utrecht team lost its away game in Rotterdam against Excelsior 3-1 while Feyenoord was brought to its knees by VVV, which beat the Rotterdam squad 3-2 in a home game in Venlo.
