This weekend Dutch Premier League clubs are joining a European-wide 'Match Day Against Hunger', a campaign led by the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization.

The participating clubs are asking their supporters to sign a petition calling for effective measures aimed at combating hunger and poverty. The campaign is being observed by football competitions in 17 countries, including Germany, Italy, Spain and England.

Special events are being held to mark the campaign. In the Netherlands footballers will sign footballs. German referees will use a yellow whistle, the campaign's symbol.

The organizers say they have gathered over 1.5 million signatures so far.
