Port of Rotterdam of vital importance to US security

The port of Rotterdam is on a list of key facilities around the world that the United States regards as vital to its security.

The State Department regards a possible terrorist attack on Rotterdam as a potential threat to the United States. The list, which was released by Wikileaks on Sunday night, is probably the most controversial document yet from the organisation. It includes two other locations in the Netherlands: two transatlantic cables that make landfall near the towns of Beverwijk and Katwijk.

In February of last year, the US State Department asked all US missions abroad to draw up a list of locations whose loss would critically affect the economic, national and domestic security of the United States.
