Pollution alert after noxious smells near Rotterdam

24th June 2010, Comments 0 comments

The environmental authority in the Rotterdam area has issued a pollution warning for the Rijnmond industrial area west of the Dutch city.

Industries have been asked to reduce their gas emissions, limit the transfer of smelly products and minimise chemical installation startups.

Since early on Thursday the authority has been receiving scores of complaints over noxious smells. There is currently no wind, and with summer temperatures around 25 degrees Celsius, the stench can be overwhelming. There is no immediate danger to public health.
