AMSTERDAM — Twelve officers of the Rotterdam-Rijnmond police force have been discovered committing fraud while purchasing their bicycles.

Two of the officers were immediately fired, ten will have to pay fines.
The police reported the fraud incidents on Thursday after finishing an investigation.

The fraud committed involved a special regulation that allows police workers to purchase bicycles with an advantageous tax incentive.

Suspicions arose last spring that some policemen were abusing the regulation. The policemen were simply buying bicycles at lower prices than what was indicated on their purchase receipts, which allowed them to receive larger sums back on their tax return.
