AMSTERDAM — The bodies of a woman and a male police officer were discovered in a house in Ermelo on Tuesday.
A spokesperson for the police in North and East Gelderland said the pair had suffered violent deaths.
A relative of the police officer went to the house and discovered one of the bodies in the early afternoon. Police officers discovered the second body in another part of the residence.
"It quickly became apparent that one of the bodies was that of a (police) colleague," the spokesperson said. After consultation with the prosecution service, it was decided to ask police in IJsselland to take over the investigation.
The dead officer lived with his wife on Harderwijkerweg. The spokesperson declined to say on Tuesday whether the second victim was the man's wife.
Neighbours were mystified by the deaths. "They were a very peaceful couple. They lived here for years. He was at the back end of 40 and they had children. Dead normal people," a local who wished to remain anonymous said.
