AMSTERDAM — Two Dutch brothers were shot dead in Manila on Wednesday after they reportedly opened fire on police who were trying to arrest them.

The men were named as Willem Cornelis "Cheri" van Engelenburg, 44, and his brother Hendrikus Erik van Engelenburg, 38, by the Associated Press news agency.

The Dutch media ran the story on Thursday, but only used the initials of the men's surnames.

Both men lived in Manila and the raid in the suburban Quezon city area was one of two simultaneous operations against "cyber sex dens" allegedly owned by the men.

The brothers are alleged to have opened fire on police and were killed when officers returned fire. The police raids followed weeks of surveillance and investigation, police said.

Police found five women in the house where the shootout took place.

The women said they were paid to undress and perform sex acts in front of web cameras for clients, mostly in the US, for payments of up to 50,000 pesos (EUR 715) a month.

In the second apartment, police arrested the Filipino wife of one of the brothers and a man suspected of being the cashier. They also found two women sex models.
