The cocaine seized by Dutch police from a riverboat is worth EUR 8.25 million.

The Hague – Dutch authorities have seized 150 kilograms of cocaine with a street value of EUR 8.25 million from a riverboat, police said Monday.

The vessel was en route from Ghent, in northern Belgium, when it was stopped on 25 November, though police did not say where it was intercepted.

"The drugs were hidden below the waterline of a ship coming from Latin America, and were then transferred onto the riverboat in the port of Ghent," police spokesman Mohammed el-Mokaddem told AFP.

The cocaine was concealed in a purpose-made hiding place on the riverboat, el-Mokaddem said.

Police have arrested six people, of Dutch, Albanian and Venezuelan nationality, and said the investigation is ongoing.
