The team of investigators responsible for uncovering the child abuse network used by Robert M. have penetrated several secret websites and forums where pornographic images of children are exchanged. As a result, ten thousand photos have been obtained and destroyed, announced the national Public Prosecutor’s Office Wednesday.

M. is suspected of abusing over 80 children under his care in Amsterdam. He used the global Tor-network, which allows users to surf the Internet anonymously, to access the secret site and forums. Using Tor, the investigators gained entry to several of the sites themselves.

A number of the images were found to be new, but most dated as far back as five years, said the Public Prosecutor. On sites that have already been removed in the US, investigators found two images that were previously connected to the Amsterdam case.

Authorities will make the material available to colleagues in the countries where it originated. According to the Public Prosecutor, no new suspects have been identified in the investigation and no new victims were identified.
