AMSTERDAM - A police arrest team ended a hostage situation in a café in Amsterdam-Zuidoost on Thursday.
Police officers managed to free the man being held hostage. He was injured and had to be taken to hospital, but is not in any danger. A police spokesperson announced that a total of eleven people were arrested, some of whom were possibly victims as well.
The police received a report on Thursday morning of a hostage situation in a café on the Agatha Christiesingel. Officers closed off the neighbourhood and an observation team started monitoring the situation. In the course of the afternoon the police received reports that people were being mistreated in the building.
At about 2 p.m. officers arrested two men leaving the café, which appeared closed. Some time later another two people were arrested. At about 3.30 p.m. the arrest team forced entry into the café and arrested another seven persons.
The police say that the motive for the hostage situation was a dispute over a drug deal.
