ENKHUIZEN - Police fined 13 water sports enthusiasts on Saturday.

The operation, part of a nationwide action organised by police and the tax office, took place in the coastal waters off Enkhuizen in North-Holland, an area well known for its water sports.

Three speed boats were found to be unmanned by anyone with a navigation licence, while five people received fines because their marine telephones were not registered.

A 29-year-old driving a stolen speedboat was detained. Some of the boat owners will be investigated at a later date by the revenue commissioners.
