AMSTERDAM — Police in the eastern Dutch city of Nijkerk believe they have identified the man who has falsely represented himself to be a fireman.
The authorities have received several reports of a man giving companies and individuals advice on fire safety on behalf of the Fire Brigade. The 32-year-old local man is "passionate" about firefighting, a police spokesperson said.
The man has denied involvement but police officers claim to have seen him directing traffic or pretending to be an assistant firefighter on several occasions.
The local police chief and the Fire Brigade commander have spoken to the man to make it clear that he should no longer pretend to be a fireman. He has, however, not committed a crime, the police spokesperson said.
