Police attacker gets 15 years; officer paralysed

The man who stabbed a police officer on Driebergen-Zeist railway station in January, leaving him paralysed, has been sentenced to 15 years in jail.

The Netherlands – A 28-year-old man who stabbed a police officer on Driebergen-Zeist railway station, in central Netherlands, in January has been sentenced to 15 years in jail.

The man produced the knife after the officer had just prevented him from committing suicide and stabbed his rescuer in the neck. The officer is now paralysed from the neck down and can no longer breathe unaided.

The public prosecutor had demanded a jail sentence of 18 years.
