AMSTERDAM – Polish workers should only stay temporarily in the Netherlands. After three or six months they should return to their own country to increase the level of prosperity there.

MP Rita Verdonk said this on the television programme Business Class on Sunday afternoon.

Verdonk said that Poles "are hard workers that we do need here," but that they should only plan to stay in the Netherlands temporarily. She said she found the discussion on the integration of Poles unnecessary since Poles should not settle here permanently.

The former immigration minister was also critical about extra aid to the Antilles. "I hear that EUR 2.2 billion extra has to be added to the aid. It is gradually becoming too ridiculous for words," the MP said.

Verdonk also said that she will be touring the country in the coming weeks. A week and a half ago the politician set up the party Trots op Nederland (Proud of the Netherlands).

This political "movement" would secure 19 seats in Parliament if elections were held now, according to the most recent Political Barometer from Interview-NSS and Nova.
