Dutch-based multinational electronics company Philips is suspected of the systematic bribing of hospital administrators in Poland. Public broadcaster NOS and the newspaper FD, reported this on Tuesday based on research material they have obtained from the Polish public prosecutor.

The hospital administrators are said to have purchased equipment from Philips in return for the bribes. Three former employees of Philips and several hospital administrators must appear in court.

The FD writes that, according to the Polish Judiciary, Philips has established a fund to finance the bribes. The German subsidiary of Philips in Hamburg is believed to be involved in the case. The study focuses on twenty cases of bribery in southern Poland. The hospital staff have meanwhile been dismissed, and Philips is working on its own internal investigation into the matter.
